Anhydrous Lanthanum(III) Chloride is a white hexagonal crystal with hygroscopicity. It has a density of 3.84 g/cm³, a melting point of 850 °C, and is soluble in water. Its heptahydrate is white triclinic crystal, decomposing at 91 °C and soluble in water and ethanol.

It applies to solvent-free Knoevenagel condensation for substituted olefins, one-pot synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones, and serves as a precursor to prepare La/V co-doped TiO₂ nanoparticles via the sol-gel method.
