Metformin hydrochloride is an oral biguanide hypoglycemic agent. Though less potent than phenformin, it can effectively regulate blood sugar.

It lowers blood glucose by inhibiting glucagon release and accelerating glycogen synthesis. It does not stimulate insulin secretion, hence ideal for non-insulin-dependent diabetic patients.

Metformin hydrochloride is an oral hypoglycemic agent widely used to manage type 2 diabetes. It effectively reduces fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels, and can lower HbA1c by 1% to 2%.


The primary mechanisms of action include

It boosts peripheral insulin sensitivity and glucose uptake, facilitates glucose consumption in insulin-independent tissues, suppresses hepatic gluconeogenesis and intestinal glucose absorption.
Indicated for mild type 2 diabetes. It exerts hypoglycemic effects and improves insulin sensitivity via the LKB1-AMPK signaling pathway.
